Your Ducky Is Here!

Here is all the information you’ll need to apply for the Ducky Scholarship for the 2009 Retreat for Women Writers. The retreat will be held August 10 through 16 at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico.

The Ducky Scholarships were born from the nightly readings at the 2007 Retreat. The retreatants were encouraged to drop a couple of dollars into our ducky basket for enjoying the refreshments—hence, the Ducky Scholarships. A variety of Ducky Scholarships will be awarded for the 2009 retreat—one scholarship will be exclusively for a woman working in hospitality and another scholarship will be for one woman who visited the A Room of Her Own Foundation table at the 2009 AWP Conference.

The scholarship recipients will receive fully-sponsored attendance at the 2009 retreat as a Free Agent. Free Agents do not participate in workshops and have more time to write and enjoy the ranch. Free Agents participate in as many or as few of the retreat's other offerings as they choose. Room and board will be provided. Transportation will not be furnished. The recipients will be required to assist in daily activities which will be decided by the Retreat Coordinator. Examples of responsibilities may include: setting up for nightly readings or assisting in the browsing library.

Scholarship Application Requirements:

Cover letter of no more than two pages addressing:
- Your writing history
- Your writing goals
- Your potential benefit from this scholarship
- A personal statement regarding financial need
Copy of your resume
A recent writing sample of your work (maximum 10 pages)

Applications must be postmarked by March 2, 2009.
