AROHO A Foundation For Women Artists and Writers

December 2009 AROHO Newsletter

Holiday Letter 2009

Dear Friends,

Another year comes to an end and we look at those gathered around us, celebrate each other's achievements, and anticipate an exceptional future. The myriad women who make up A Room of Her Own continue to grow in strength, ideas, and generosity. We are honored to be in the midst of a vibrant community of creative women, and anxious to begin 2010, a landmark year, in such good company.

To wrap the last year up, and kick the next year off right, we're packaging our final newsletter of 2009 like a gift of chocolates: sweet and petite. Enjoy!

In honor of AROHO's 10th birthday in 2010, AROHO women are hosting a series of community events across the country. In the Southwest this March? Don't miss AROHO's 2010 Women & Creativity Event in partnership with Albuquerque's National Hispanic Cultural Center. Stay tuned to our Event Calendar for an event near you.

AROHO's Book Club is celebrating the debut of More of This World or Maybe Another, a collection of short stories by Gift of Freedom winner Barb Johnson, with an online discussion. Send us a note on Facebook or the Book Club Blog if you'd like to take part so we can begin warming a "digital" seat for you.

We were thrilled to initiate The Orlando Prize and To the Lighthouse Poetry Publication Prize in 2009. Nine women won awards, and eight women's winning eMessages were published on our website. The next Orlando Prize deadline is right around the corner on January 31, 2010.

Finally, we launched Give 10 in 2010, a community-powered initiative to endow the Gift of Freedom (next deadline 10.10.10). We are proud to have accumulated a list of people across the country who are Freedom Endowment Funders. We hope to see your name and state represented there soon!

Happy New Year!!
